Google might be cooking Android 9.0 (Android P) too early

by Samuel OnyikeSeptember 1, 2017

I’m not yet done with Android 7.0, just for Google to throw in Android 8.0 which i expect to arrive in Nigeria next year with some new phones from Tecno and Infinix. Now rumors are all about that Google is already working the next android version which might be the android 9.0. And i might be right, as of yesterday night a new tag has opened up in the Android Open Source Project called “master-p”. This indicates that the next android version could be tag a ‘P’ just like android Oreo was ‘O’.

Already one can start giving names to the Android P – Android Pancake? Android Pie, Android “andything snack that starts with P”. So about the master P, Google is now testing the alleged Android P on the Google Pixel (sailfish) and Google Pixel XL (marlin). “master P” was just merged to the master branch yesterday night. In the changes made to the version_defaults.mk file, we can see the new platform code name and version.
Above you can see, the code name is Android P = Android O for the previous release. And the platform version is PPR1 = OPR1, all which is following google method of naming builds.
