MTN changes plans for Night Plan subscribers

by Samuel OnyikeAugust 16, 2018

In the light of a N200bn Naira loan MTN NG secured from 12 Nigerian banks, the South-african telecommunication company has reduced the data volume for its Night plan. The loan according to MTN was to increase its reach in Nigeria and as well settle capital expenditure. With the current state of the country, things get harder everyday even for the blue chips.

MTN reduced the night plan at non-proportional rates. The 25N Night plan which previously issues 500MB data capacity now issues 125MB data cap. Meanwhile the 500N Night plan previously issues 1GB data capacity now comes with 500MB data cap. Reduction of data plans were also experienced in the regular data plans. Nigerians have no other option than to settle with it. There is no penalty on a telecommunication company for change in data plan.

We are not sure if there will be an improvement soon, but the data cap rates for all subscriptions are bound to change uninformed.

What’s the way around ?

You can opt-in for optimising data usage of internet based applications. External data usage monitoring apps comes in handy here to check data consumption easily. One of the best things to do is to adopt to the new rates while MTN looks to making thing better.
