In the smartphone industry a mild rumble exists between Samsung and Apple. Even if you don’t see it in the brands, you’ll in the fans. Samsung galaxy S9 made a huge step over iPhone 8 this year, but Apple had the upper hand on the predecessor of both phones last year. In the music streaming industry, it has been a tough tide in the sea for who will take over the heart of music streamers. Apple and spotify on the forefront, horns locked. But it seems spotify has been losing its guard.
Samsung partners with Spotify on a new deal which makes spotify the music streaming provider for all of its hardware in an announcement made by spotify. This means that Samsung hardware users will have an option to sign up for spotify music streaming service, enabling streaming music across various Samsung devices where same spotify account is signed in. The same thing happens with iOS devices, where Apple gadget users sign up for Apple music on-the-go. Payments are easy as the card details are already on the file.
During a interview, when Spotify CEO, Daniel Ek was asked what inspired the integration between Samsung and Spotify, he said
Since Spotify’s inception, we’ve studied how people use Spotify. We know that listeners stream different kinds of music at different times, in different places, and most importantly, on different devices. We think music should be easy to access on ALL of your devices—and we want it to be seamless to switch from one device to another.
What is the outcome of this partnership ?
Basically, Samsung have its device all over the world and needs something to add in order to stay above the charts. Music streaming might look like the least thing you think Samsung needs. But the chart reads differently. The percentage of music streamers increases by the year. In the Music Streaming segment, the number of users is expected to amount to 1,400.7m by 2022 according to statista. Spotify on the other hand needs a little more boost to get to get past Apple Music 49.5 million users in U.S.
It is thought as much because users of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 who may not have a music streaming service set up will now have spotify as their “Go to” music streaming provider.
